Avoriaz is a French ski resort that stands out for its commitment to sustainable development. Entirely pedestrian, this resort strictly prohibits all cars. The resort is a vast circuit of skiable slopes, where you can access the foot of the high wooden chalets without taking off your shoes. Located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil area, it is right on the heels of the title holder, the 3 Valleys, and is second on the podium of the world’s largest. In total, 12 resorts in France and Switzerland are linked by a network of almost 600 km and 316 downhill ski runs.

The Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana has been named as the host of the 2027 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships following the FIS council elections and award ceremony in Milan

The resort previously hosted the biennial competition in 1987.

Held over two weeks in February, it will see the very best men and women Alpine ski racers compete across disciplines including Downhill, Slalom, Super G and Giant Slalom.

Held in Milan, the International Ski Federation (FIS) ceremony was hosted by former British ski racer and Eurosport commentator, Nick Fellows, and he was joined by FIS president Johan Eliasch.

Announcements were also made for 2026 and 2027 World Championship events in Freestyle ski and Snowboard, Ski Flying and Nordic.

Eliasch said: “We had four excellent bids to host the 2027 Alpine World Championships and it certainly was not an easy decision. Crans-Montana brought a passion to its bid that you could feel. Bringing the Alpine World Ski Championships to the heart of Alpine Skiing in 2027 will be an unbelievable opportunity.”

Crans-Montana won 11 of the 18 votes against Narvik (Norway), Soldeu (Andorra) and Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany).

Urs Lehmann, president of Swiss-Ski and vice-president of the Candidature Committee, said: “Obtaining the 2027 World Championships is the reward for the excellent work of the whole team over the last few years. If our project was the most convincing, it is because everyone, from the Commune to the Canton, pulled together. We also benefited from a large support from the ski lift company and the community.”

The expected 200,000 visitors to the event will enjoy a new state-of-the-art, multifunctional finish stadium and have been promised ‘breath-taking Swiss performances on the snow’.

Ski film “The Ultimate Run” wins Sports Emmy Award

The outstanding ski film “The Ultimate Run” by Markus Eder won the Sports Emmy Award in the category “Outstanding Camera Work – Long Form” in New York.

With this, the Marker, Dalbello and Völkl athlete has achieved something that not many have accomplished before him: rarely is a ski film nominated for the Sports Emmy Awards – even more rarely is it honoured with the award and recognised by the mainstream media beyond the ski world.

Markus Eder’s ten-minute film, “The Ultimate Run”, captures all of his skiing skills in a single, impressive run that unites every sub-genre of modern freeskiing. It took two years to assemble the footage that eventually became the ultimate run from the top of the Zermatt Glacier, across the Klausberg ski area in South Tyrol, and all the way down to Eder’s home village. It also involved cutting-edge camera work, including aerial and remote cinematography, follow-cam segments, as well as race drone footage.

“’The Ultimate Run’ allowed me to wrap my entire skiing spectrum into a single edit. We filmed a top-to-bottom run in my hometown of Klausberg and were finally able to shoot at all the spots I’ve been dreaming of for years,” said Markus Eder.
